The Obverse is Edwards portrait looking to the left. The reverse is the famous George and the dragon by Benedetto Pistrucci. M is for the Melbourne mint which struck the sovereign coin only between 1872 and 1916.
Benedetto was an Italian medallist, gem and coin engraver. Did you know that Pistrucci was commissioned by the British Government to create the large Waterloo Medal which took him 30 Years to complete?!
